PDP Is Still Behaving Like a Nollywood Party

Mr. Osita Okechukwu, a founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has said that while in opposition, the main opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) demonstrates a tremendous lack of foresight.

As a significant opposition party, the PDP, according to Okechukwu, "has continued to entertain Nigerians with tales by moonlight as if it were a Nollywood cast," adding that "nothing about the party implies any genuine challenge to the governing party."

On Thursday, he told media that the PDP's pitiful blame game against the APC following their meeting left a lot to be desired, noting that the opposition party was on the verge of dissolution, as prophesied by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar.

Recently, Okechukwu, who is also the Director General of Voice of Nigeria (DG, VON), described the PDP governors' meeting in Aba as a "jamboree," adding that the party's claim that the APC is unfit to run in the general elections in 2023 is wishful thinking.

"No matter how you look at it, the PDP understands they are to blame for the gasoline and fuel shortages, as well as the national grid's breakdown," he said. The collapse of Nigeria's energy infrastructure is the result of the PDP's 16-year reign of massive corruption and financial irresponsibility. Is the PDP still behaving like a Nollywood cast? For God's sake, the PDP should stop acting, because it, like Pontus Pilate, cannot wash its hands of the material conditions that led people to violence.

This has turned Nigeria into the World's Poverty Capital, resulting in palpable insecurity, severe petrol and diesel scarcity, and the national grid's breakdown.

"Yes, we made some unforced blunders; nevertheless, Nigerians have learned from our mistakes and are sensible enough to recall the PDP's slogan, 'Share the Money.'" They decided to share the money instead of using the Oil Windfall to repair infrastructure in the sixteenth year. That is the infrastructure shortfall that President Buhari has been borrowing to address."

The PDP "tied President Muhammadu Buhari's hand through hanky-panky corruption in the power generating and distribution value chain known as privatisation project," according to the DG VON. This setback rendered the Siemens refurbishment ineffective, and it continues to obstruct the Mambilla power project's successful launch."

President Buhari's hand was constrained when it came to unbundling the electricity.

By tampering with the privatization process, the value chain is tainted. The agreements they had were similar to a tenant making an agreement for the landlord, in this case the Federal Government of Nigeria, which was headed by the PDP at the time. The result is today's dismal performance of Distribution Companies (DISCOs) across the country.

Or do we forget how the billions voted for to purchase military weapons were siphoned off for personal gain by PDP senior brass? When individuals claim that the APC and the PDP are the same, it hurts. This is a false accusation because the APC has invested heavily in physical and social infrastructure, as well as an unprecedented agrarian revolution. The PDP, on the other hand, "shared money," according to Okechukwu.
